1918 St. Clair Street Bridge Collapse

On August 7, 1918 an interurban car struck a horse drawn wagon on the St Clair St bridge, and it collapsed. While there were 10 injuries, there were no fatalities, and the horses broke lose and swam to shore. The bridge was replaced, with a new Interurban track included in the roadbed.

1922 Bus / Train Collision

Tragic bus/train collision took the lives of 11 Fairport Harbor residents.

The bus was traveling from downtown Painesville headed to Fairport Harbor, Many of the passengers were returning from a dance At the St. Clair Street crossing it was struck by a New York Central express train.
